Master of Arts

Grow with Navajo Technical University, while earning your Master of Arts degree. A bachelor degree, in science or art, is required to obtain your Master degree. Help make Navajo Nation that much better with an advance degree as other degrees are developed in the coming years. Make a contribution to the quality education Diné need and make Navajo Nation better educated.

Graduates of the program will obtain professional benefits from their experience as graduate students. Typical roles for the graduates, in addition to their bachelor degree, immediately after their graduation will be:

  • K-12 Cultural Teachers
  • Health Care Workers
  • Community Workers
  • Behavioral Health Workers
  • Social Workers
  • Traditional Culture & Language Teachers
  • Diné Language Teachers
  • Community Leaders
  • Tribal Council Leaders
  • Department Leaders

Federal regulations require institutions participating in student financial assistance programs authorized under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 to report certain information about students who enrolled in Title IV eligible education programs.

Admissions Requirements

Deadline for Fall 2024: April 5, 2024

Submit a complete admission application package for admission. All supporting documents need to be on file at the university to be considered for admission. Documents needed are:

  1. A completed and signed NTU Graduate Program Admissions Application.
  2. Copy of Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) or an official record of enrollment that indicates membership with a federally recognized Indian Tribe for all Native American students.
  3. All higher education official transcripts are required to be on file prior to official admissions into the program.
  4. Submit three current letters of recommendation
  5. Submit a 500-word statement in Diné bizaad or English mentioning your:
    • motivation for graduate study, and any other information you believe will assist the Graduate Admission Committee (GAC) to consider your application for graduate admission
        Consider including the following in your statement:
      • academic and professional goals,
      • research interest,
      • relevant prior experiences,

 

Other Requirements

  • Fluency in Diné is not a requirement. Proficiency in Diné and English languages will be expected of Culture, Language & Leadership graduate students. Students will have the opportunity to increase their proficiency in the Diné language by taking courses at their proficiency level.
  • All students will be tested for proficiency in the Dine’ language by the University. Verbal, reading and written exams in the Dine’ language will be conducted after admission notification. Each student will be informed when their exams will be scheduled after the admission notification.
  • Applicants are solely responsible for compiling their own credentials. Collect all documents in SEALED envelopes of official transcripts and letters of recommendation. Documents submitted in unsealed envelopes will not be accepted, which will be returned to you. All documents submitted in support of your application will become a permanent part of the University records and are not returnable nor copies made at any time.
  • Copy of CIB (if applicable)
  • Copy of Social Security Card
  • Copy of Covid Vaccination or Exemption Form
